Fromus Cottage is a beautifully presented 3 bedroom period cottage of 967 sq. ft (89.9 sq. m) situated in the small hamlet of Sternfield. This deceptively spacious cottage comprises an entrance porch, downstairs cloakroom, two reception rooms (sitting room and a dining room), kitchen/breakfast room. On the first floor are three double bedrooms and a very nicely presented family bathroom. The property has some lovely features including sash windows, stripped internal doors, along with a beautiful wood burning stove in the sitting room. The windows to the front of the house and the side window in the dining room are all secondary glazed.
Fromus Cottage is perfectly located to enjoy the Suffolk Coast, countryside and market towns. The train station is a mile away and from there it's a 2 hour journey into Liverpool Street Station, London. There is an abundance of great pubs, farm shops and boutique stores within a 10 mile radius. Waitrose is a mile away.
Aldeburgh is a 10 minute drive from the cottage. It's lovely to start the day with a dip in the sea and move on to one of the cafes for breakfast. Aldeburgh has the best fish and chip shops for miles around, a handful of restaurants, boutique shops and artisan bakery and butchery.
Snape Maltings is 3 miles from the cottage. It's lovely to cycle to the world famous concert hall that provides an abundance of world class culture on the doorstep. Snape is host to the Aldeburgh Music Festival in June that features classical music and in August the Proms features a much more eclectic range of music and dance. The Maltings is a great starting point for walks along the River Alde to Iken or through the forest and country trail to Aldeburgh.
Suffolk coast has numerous festivals including literary, poetry, theatre, new theatre, documentary films, arts, notably the Alde Valley Spring Festival. Latitude festival is just a 20 minute drive up the A12 from Fromus Cottage.
From the cottage you can walk inland through the upper Alde Valley. The beautiful landscape is gently undulating and hosts a number of very pretty villages.
Tunstall forest is just 10 minutes drive from the cottage. The forest has varied woodlands, extensive cycling tracks and a hidden mock prehistoric and roman village. From the mock village it's just another 4 miles is the bucolic village of Orford with it's infamous bakery, self service 'honesty box' newsagents, smokeries in the village and on the quay and lighthouse in the distance.
Other easily accessible delights include Southwold which has a sandy beach, great shops and eateries. Woodbridge has yet more great shops, a quayside with houseboats and cafes. Inland, Framlingham has the infamous 'castle on the hill', Saturday morning artisan market where locals and visitors hang out, catch up with each other and watch the world go by from the cafes around the market square.
Some think there is an advantage to being slightly inland. Fromus Cottage feels like it's right in the centre of Southwold to the north, Aldeburgh to the east, Woodbridge to the south and Framlingham to the west.
Whilst the sea breeze is a little more mellow here, the sea feels like it's right on the doorstep. Perfect.
